Meet Carolyn DeKay Townsend, LMSW
At the heart of Radiant Worth Counseling is a simple belief: your worth is not something you have to earn.
Trauma, grief, painful relationships, and the pressures of everyday life can leave us questioning who we are and whether we are enough. We begin to define ourselves by our performance, the roles we fill, or the expectations we strive to meet. I believe that while life's experiences can dim our awareness of our worth, they cannot diminish the value we inherently possess.
The name Radiant Worth reflects my hope for every client I meet: that through the healing process, you can reconnect with the strength, resilience, and goodness that have always been within you. Therapy isn't about fixing what is broken. It's about uncovering what has been hidden by pain, self-doubt, or survival and helping you remember who you are beneath it all.
I earned my Master of Social Work with a clinical focus and have specialized training in Brainspotting, along with EMDR-informed approaches and trauma treatment. I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and struggles with self-worth.
I have a special passion for working with high-achieving professionals, athletes, and adolescents striving for excellence. As a former collegiate volleyball athlete and the mother of athletes, I understand both the rewards and the hidden costs of performance-driven environments. The pursuit of success often comes with immense pressure—the expectation to push through pain, maintain composure, meet high standards, and keep going even when you're struggling internally. Many high performers appear capable on the outside while quietly carrying anxiety, perfectionism, self-doubt, unresolved experiences, or the fear that their value is tied to what they accomplish. I believe that true performance is strengthened not through relentless self-criticism, but through resilience, self-awareness, and a secure sense of worth that exists apart from achievement.
As a mother of six, I bring a lived understanding of how complex, layered, and beautifully messy human life can be. I know what it means to hold many things at once—joy and grief, strength and exhaustion, faith and doubt. That's the fullness I hold space for in my work. You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy; every part of your experience is welcome here.
I also believe that healing should come to you. That's why I offer in-home sessions, community-based sessions, and secure telehealth appointments across Alaska. I serve clients throughout Anchorage, Eagle River, and the Mat-Su Valley, with a small travel surcharge for in-person visits. Your life, your schedule, and your comfort matter.
Whether you're processing trauma, navigating a season of transition, striving for peak performance, or simply longing to reconnect with yourself, I would be honored to walk alongside you. My hope is that through our work together, you'll rediscover what may have been hidden by life's hardships:
Your light has never gone out. Your worth has never been in question.
